One America on the Two Americas

Lawyers get all sorts of fun e-mails from people whose ramblings you'd never want to hear. And I'm no exception.

It seems John Edwards is running for president again. Otherwise, he wouldn't bother to send me a self-congratultory e-mail detailing his heroic exploits about the globe to get his picture taken with every international figure he could short of Austin Powers. And in what seems to be an effort to correct his image, he has called his blog "One America". But based upon this speech in London, the "two Americas" and even "two globes" standard appears to be alive and well. Read the whole thing, it's a howler.

Edwards can't get off of the notion that this world is divided into the "haves" and the "have nots," and that the whole problem of the "have nots" must necessarily be the fault of the "haves". But it doesn't matter anyway. For a guy who can't win his own town for his presidential ticket, he may also have to move to Chappaqua to get the locals excited about him.
